Story: According to the religion Islam a widow has the right to re-marry after 4 months of isolation in ‘Iddat’. She has the right to marry the man of her choice but in our culture people usually raise fingers as they have objections on a widow marrying someone else. They want her to stay in the same house in isolation or else it would bring a bad name to the family thus failing to realize that our own religion Islam has given the woman her due right to re-marry. This story revolves around this concept with the lead character being Siffat who is 21 years old and is married to Haider. Haider has two other brothers Faris and Raza who are nice to Siffat but their mother Shamshad Baigam is a strong character who likes to give orders and wants people to do what she commands them to do. Faris did not get along well with his married life and had to finally divorce and is living with his mother along with his son. Haider actually has an affair going on with someone else whom he hides from Siffat. One fine day when Raza is getting engaged Haider dies at which Siffat undergoes a shock at her husband’s sudden death. Now Siffat is at the complete mercy of her mother in law. She keeps a strict check on Siffat completely isolating her from the rest of the world. See how the story further develops and takes a turn with both Raza and Faris supporting Siffat while their mother and others turn completely against them.

Maira Khan

Maira started off with her career 7 years ago as a model. Then different directors casted her in TV dramas. Till now, Maira has done more than 50 drama serials and sitcoms. Yamina Peerzada

Yamina Peerzada has graduated from Central School of Speech and Drama (UK) with a Masters Degree in ‘Acting for Screen’.
Growing up amongst artists she was introduced and drawn to the performing arts from a very young age. She performed her first stage play at the age of ten at the 2nd World Performing Arts Festival 1994.
She has performed as a puppeteer with the Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop in Pakistan, India, Turkey, Italy, Scotland, France, Norway and United Kingdom.
She was the first Pakistani actress to perform a One-Woman Show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, 2008.
She performed ‘Dance Without Movement’ (One-Woman Show) at the Invasian Festival-Edinburgh Fringe Festival, for 21 Nights, directed by Jim Johnson-Peshkar Productions.
She has two music to her credit namely ‘Chal’ by Rubberband, directed by Ahmed Ali Butt and Bilal Lashari (2008 ) and ‘Moray Sayyan’ by Kaavish, directed by Sohail Javed (2010).
She made her acting debut on television in ‘Rangeelpur’ written and directed by Usmaan Peerzada, on PTV Home in Nov 2010.
Her second serial is A & B’s “Roag” directed by Babar Javed and Furqan Khan and written by Faiza Ifthikar.

Jameel Fakhri passes away

Fakhri was admitted to Mayo Hospital on May 31 after suffering a stroke that resulted in paralysis.

Many of Fakhri’s close friends believe the death of his young son, Ali Ayaz Fakhri, in the USA a few months back took a heavy toll on the actor’s health and he could not recover from the shock.

Jamil Fakhri was born in Lahore in 1946. After graduation, he joined the National Bank of Pakistan.

He started doing theatre at Wapda Auditorium, Lahore, and at Alhamra with actors like Kamal Ahmed Rizvi, Athar Shah Khan, Ali Ejaz and Nannah. His popular stage plays include Andar Ana Mana Hai, Zuban Daraz and Lahore Bypass.

He was considered among the founding artistes of PTV. Lahore TV producer Yawar Hayat gave him a break in TV plays. His popular TV plays include Tanay Banay, Daldal, Waris, Andhera Ujala, Bandhan and Ek Mauhabat Sau Afsanay.

His role of police inspector Jaffar Husain in PTV play Andhera Ujala became so popular that film director Shabab Kairanvi selected him for big screen.

Fakhri acted in more than 50 films. Muskarhat and Deewanay Do are among his best flicks.

His last play was Dil Day Boohay on PTV in which he acted  on May 22. On May 31st, the day he suffered a stroke, his play Sehra Teri Pyas went on air at a private TV channel.

Fakhri’s old companion Qavi Khan told Dawn by phone from Karachi that with his death a golden chapter of his (Qavi’s) life had ended.

“He would never call me Qavi, he used to call me Khan Baba,” said Qavi Khan in a choked voice. “We had a long association during the recording of Andhera Ujala and I found him a great actor and a sensitive person.”

Irfan Khusat said Jamil was a close friend of him and that he could not say much as he was sitting by the body of Jamil Fakhri.

Tanzeem Butt, a close friend of Fakhri who worked with him in National Bank, said: “He (Fakhri) was a lively person but death of his young son affected his health badly and after that tragic incident he was always in deep thoughts.”

According to Fakhri’s son Ali Ghaus, the funeral of the artiste would be held at 8am on Friday (today) at Qila Luxman Singh and he would be laid to rest at Ilm Din Shaheed compound at Miani Sahib graveyard.
